During a rainy afternoon in Southern California, I walked into a juice bar called Organic Tree. The only treat I was craving was a Golden Milk latte. I’ve made plenty of Golden Milk Lattes in my lifetime and was anxiously awaiting the delicious flavor and smoothness of the turmeric and almond milk. However, today was different. This latte blew my expectations out of the water. It was so fresh, so creamy, and oh it was smooth. I had to ask how it was made. I found out it had fresh Turmeric & Ginger juice! This new golden milk recipe is now my go-to.

Since it didn’t have all the powders, the final result was amazingly smooth and vibrantly flavorful, which made it oh so delicious!

This Golden Milk Recipe packs an Immune Boosting benefit!

My wish for you is to stay safe, happy & healthy. I know the energy out there is really heavy right now with everything going on. Believe it or not, I made this recipe before the whole virus outbreak struck. I personally enjoy the immune-boosting benefits and delicious flavors this golden milk recipe entails.

However, I do believe now is a wonderful time to release the recipe as both turmeric & ginger are both potent immune-boosting superfoods. I am no doctor, but I do know what is healing & recommend using this for its preventative uses.

Benefits of freshly juiced vs. powdered

Besides the amazing taste that your golden milk will have using freshly juiced ingredients, the ingredients will also be more bio-available. Freshly juiced turmeric and ginger will have more live enzymes, vitamins, minerals & medicinal properties.

If you can’t use fresh, do not stress, you can always use powdered and still get a lot of the benefits.

Fresh nut or seed milk as a base

For this recipe, I used fresh almond milk. Let me tell you, the fresher the better. The flavor notes of the nuts or seeds you use to make your milk, come out the fresher they are. Just recently, we received an Almond Cow. If you’ve never heard of an Almond Cow, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. It’s pure magic! It’s the fastest alternative milk maker I’ve literally ever used. You can also use the code STEPHANIE for $15 off.

I used to make my own almond milk by soaking the almonds, mixing them in a blender or food processor, then straining them by hand. The result worked, it could be grainy at times, but once I tried the Almond Cow, I never looked back. The Almond Cow makes the most delicious, smooth almond milk, you’d never guess it came right from your kitchen. Needless to say, I’m a fan and used it to make the alternative milk base for this recipe.

Don’t skip the black pepper

When working with turmeric, you always want to include black pepper. This is a little tip that I found that will enhance curcumin absorption in the body by up to 2,000%! Combining the two spices will magnify the beneficial effects & properties that each spice provides. It also adds a little hint of spice that makes the drink come to life!

So we’ve heard about curcumin absorption, what are some of the other benefits of turmeric and ginger? Well, turmeric is very anti-inflammatory and enables the uptake of antioxidants by the body (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/top-10-evidence-based-health-benefits-of-turmeric).

The ginger plays extremely well as a partner to the turmeric because it’s loaded with antioxidants and has a bunch of anti-viral properties. The result is a delicious, immunity-boosting elixir!

If you want some other immune-boosting elixirs to check out the Triple Berry Vanilla Rooibos Tea, Autumn Cider, & Cranberry Mulled Cider. Of course, let me know how these recipes work and if you make them! I’d love to hear your feedback in the comment section below or on Instagram (@mytinylagunakitchen).

Notes

  1. If you don't have fresh turmeric or ginger juice on hand you can absolutely still get an amazing warming & delicious drink without them. I highly recommend brands such as Mountain Rose Herbs to make sure you are getting a well-sourced ingredient. The fresh juice will just give you a smoother & more potent elixir.
  2. If you don't have a juicer to juice turmeric or ginger, you can put fresh roots into the blender with about a cup of water & blend on high. Strain the pulp out using a cheesecloth or nut milk bag.
