There are many forms of cheating.

Not every affair has to involve drink-fueled one night stands. And new research is proving just that.

A new story has found that around 45 percent of men and 35 percent of women have admitted to having an affair… emotionally.

Yes, according to The Independent, an emotional affair is the most common way for people to cheat and they say it’s because people don’t think they’re doing anything wrong.

“In the tasks of daily life, our emotional needs often get pushed to the side,” clinical psychologist Lynn Saladino told the paper.

“We stop seeing our partner as an emotional being and more as a person who helps us complete tasks and meet obligations.

“When this happens, it can be very tempting to seek support elsewhere.”

Experts say, emotional detachment in relationships is a common source of problems and often leads to infidelity.

Something many women worry about, with the study finding that nearly 90 percent of women worry about their partners being involved in an emotional affair.

And it seems most people are finding that external connection in the office.

The research found that 60 percent of emotional affairs begin at work because of the mutual understanding of their stresses and worries.

“Some partners may literally go days without a significant, distraction-free, emotional interaction with each other because of careers, hobbies, etc, so they seek it elsewhere,” counselor, David Bennett, told the paper.
